Preparing Dumfries Hall for a New Generation of Students – Our 5th Year

As summer draws to a close and a new academic year approach, there is a familiar transformation taking place at the University of Glasgow’s student accommodation supporting the Dumfries Campus.

For the fifth consecutive year, the team at Nith Valley Cleaning Services has once again been trusted to undertake the cleaning and preparation work required to get the accommodation ready for the arrival of a new group of students. And while cleaning may happen behind the scenes, we know just how important this work is.

A fresh start for a new academic year

Moving into student accommodation is a major milestone. For many students, arriving at university accommodation is their first experience of living away from home. Their room and their shared accommodation quickly become much more than just somewhere to sleep – they become their home while studying, socialising and building friendships. Each bedroom includes a small double bed, study area, storage and an en-suite shower room, while the shared kitchens provide space for students to cook, eat and spend time together.

Five years of getting students ready for their new home

This year marks our fifth year undertaking this important cleaning programme. Over those five years, our team has returned each summer to help prepare the accommodation between academic years – working to a schedule and standard designed to ensure the residence is ready for its next occupants.

It is a responsibility that we take seriously.

There is a real sense of satisfaction in knowing that the work our team carries out contributes to creating that important “fresh start” feeling for students arriving in Dumfries.

A clean bedroom.

A fresh en-suite.

A spotless kitchen.

A welcoming communal area.

These things might seem straightforward, but collectively they can make a significant difference to someone’s first impression of their new home.

Proud to be part of the Dumfries community

Nith Valley Cleaning Services has grown considerably since we first started operating in Dumfries, and projects such as this are something we are particularly proud of.

Being a local cleaning company gives us the opportunity to work with a wide variety of organisations and businesses throughout Dumfries and Galloway.

Our work at the student accomedation is a great example of a local business playing its part in supporting an important part of the local community and the wider University of Glasgow Dumfries Campus.

As the new students arrive at Dumfries Hall for the 2026/27 academic year, we would like to wish every one of them the very best for their time at the University of Glasgow. We hope they enjoy their new surroundings, make new friends, settle into their accommodation and, most importantly, have a fantastic university experience.

From everyone at Nith Valley Cleaning Services – it’s been another busy summer, but we’re proud to have played our part in getting Dumfries Hall ready. Five years completed. Another new intake welcomed. And plenty more cleaning still to come!

Here’s to the next academic year. 🧹🎓
